Will Dentures affect my appearance?
As well as making the inside your mouth feel different, Complete Dentures will make your face look different too. By providing essential support to your facial muscles and features, they can actually make you appear younger. Where your new Dentures replace any front teeth, you might feel that the denture teeth are too far forward or your lips are too thick. Rest assured that your Dentures will have been positioned to be where your natural teeth once were, and this feeling will soon disappear.
Will Dentures affect my speech?
Many people find that their speech effected while their tongue and lips get used to the new shape of their Dentures, but wearing them will actually improve your speech. To aid the process of adjustment, reading aloud can help, as can counting from 65 – 70 (these sounds can be particularly tricky to form). It is common to salivate more, which can affect your speech. Sipping water often helps thin down saliva and you'll also find that you can improve the situation by simply swallowing more often.
Will Dentures affect the way I eat?
Returning your jaw to its natural position may affect your chewing and biting ability in the short-term, but it won’t be long before things improve. In the beginning, you should avoid tough, hard and sticky foods and take smaller bites of food, while you get used to your new bite and tooth position. Try to chew on both sides of your mouth at the same time, and chew up and down as opposed to side to side.
When can I wear my Dentures?
While it is up to you when you wear your Dentures and how long you wear them for, we do recommend that you remove your Dentures while you sleep to give your gums a needed break. If you would rather not, then removing your dentures when you are in private, even for a short while, allows your mouth to rest.
Will Dentures make my gums sore?
While we will design your Dentures to be as comfortable as possible, it is not uncommon to develop pressure points and sore spots under and around your Dentures while your mouth and gums adjust. By making small alterations to the denture surface, we can bring added comfort to your Dentures, ensuring that you are entirely happy with their fit.
How should I store my Dentures?
Allowing Dentures to dry out is not advised, as they are designed to function in a moist environment. If you remove them at night to allow your gum tissues to rest, then ensure that you store your Dentures in either a glass of water or your preferred denture soak. If your Dentures do dry out, soak them in a glass of water prior to insertion.
How should I clean my Dentures?
Clean all of the Denture surface every day, taking care to remove any denture adhesives on a daily basis, including any parts that come into contact with your gums. To remove food debris, use a denture cream with a specially designed denture brush, and then soak your dentures in a specialist solution to keep them fresh. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Will my Dentures break easily?
While your Dentures will be made from a resilient material, we recommend that when cleaning dentures you do so low over a full basin of water. In this way if they are dropped they hit the water and not the hard sink and fracture the denture acrylic avoiding the need for an unnecessary emergency denture repair.
Why do I need to clean my Dentures on a daily basis?
A normal and healthy oral cavity harbours hundreds of bacterial species that can aggravate infection and cause oral inflammation, so keeping your Dentures clean on a daily basis is essential for good oral hygiene.
What Denture Cleaner should I use?
Conventional toothpastes are not suitable for cleaning dentures and may cause permanent damage your Dentures, but there are many Denture Cleaners available. It is very important to keep your dentures clean with the appropriate denture cleaners, and you should never use bleach or boiling water.
Can I wear my Dentures at night?
Wearing dentures at night during sleep is common as many patients feel embarrassed about removing their dentures in front of their partner. If this is the case then you may prefer to soak your dentures in an appropriate cleaning solution before you go to bed allowing you to wear clean dentures during sleep. Any denture must be spotlessly cleaned at night to avoid any decay or irritation overnight especially if you still have natural standing teeth.
What are Dental Implants?
A Dental Implant is a small titanium screw that replaces the root of your missing tooth. Titanium has biocompatible properties, which means that a Dental Implant will fuse naturally with your jawbone, acting as a safe and secure alternative to your own root. As well as making sure that your Partial or Complete Denture is comfortable and stays put, a Dental Implant will stimulate your bone tissue, helping to promote the overall health of your jaw and mouth.

How should I clean my Dental Implants?
Much like your own natural teeth, Dental Implants will last a lifetime if you care for them in the right way. Develop a daily routine to keep your implants clean, and you will avoid any gum inflammation or risk of infection.
Ensure that you clean around the head of your implants to prevent a build up of plaque which could lead to gum infections, bleeding and soreness. For areas that are difficult to clean with a normal toothbrush and toothpaste, try flossing and using small inter-dental toothbrushes.
Chlorhexidine can help tissue recover from any inflammation and reduce the occurrence of plaque. Cervitec Gel combines Chlorhexidine with fluoride, and is clinically proven to strengthen teeth and protect from tooth decay. Use the gel to brush around your individual Dental Implants and any of your own natural teeth.
If you do not care for your Dental Implants appropriately, any infection you might subsequently develop could lead to loss of one or several implants.
